“Do Not Wait for a Great Day”,2023

Everything is today. The unique forms, tensions, and modes of existence in individuals’ relationship with life can be seen from within today. However, the past also gets lost within each subsequent today. Every encounter in the distance between the past and today harbors a moment of “recognition” and is unsettling. Encounters become attached to the image of that moment within today, bringing a measure from the past to understand today. Although these encounters are not entirely new, they have prepared themselves for today in a different form in the past.
Individuals justify themselves with their emotions in the struggle for life within “today.” Political interventions use the materials, tools, and mood of today and are often directed towards “emotions.” These interventions affect the individual’s thoughts and behaviors by pulling them in a certain direction. The individual is held in an ambiguous space, not to think but to possess thoughts.
With this fundamental awareness, the exhibition “Do Not Wait for a Great Day” consists of some works that emerge from my perception of “today.”

“Harika Bir Gün”, 2023, 120×200 cm

Her şey bugündür. Bireylerin yaşamla olan ilişkisinin özgün biçimleri, gerilimleri, var olma şekilleri bugünün içinden görülebilir. Fakat geçmiş de her bir sonraki bugünün içerisinde kaybolur. Geçmişle bugün arasındaki mesafede olan her karşılaşma anı bir “tanıma” barındırır ve sarsıcıdır. Karşılaşmalar bugünün içinde o anın imajına bağlanır ve bugünü anlamak için geçmişten bir ölçü getirilir. Bu karşılaşmalar tamamiyle yeni olmamakla birlikte, geçmişte başka bir biçimde var olarak kendini bugüne hazırlamıştır.
Bireyler “bugün”ün içerisinde verdiği yaşam mücadelesinde duygularıyla gerekçelenir. Politik müdahaleler ise bugünün malzemesini, araçlarını, ruh halini kullanır ve çoğunlukla “duygulara” yöneliktir. Bu müdahaleler bireyin düşünce ve davranışlarını belirli bir yöne çekerek etkiler. Birey düşünmek yerine düşüncelere sahip olmak üzere muğlak bir alanda tutulur.
Bu temel farkındalıkla “Harika Bir Gün Bekleme” sergisi kendimin “bugün”ü algılayış biçimiyle ortaya çıkan bazı çalışmalardan oluşmaktadır.
